I Collapsed in the Snow When I Realized Someone Finally Cared

I was sitting on a freezing park bench, surrounded by snow, trying to sell the shoes off my feet for two dollars just enough for a hot meal. I'm twenty seven years old, and since losing my grandmother, I've had nowhere to go. I wasn't asking for a handout. I was just trying to survive with what dignity I had left.

When they offered to help, the relief hit me so hard I collapsed right there in the snow. I couldn't believe someone actually cared. I've been carrying this weight alone for so long.
