Barefoot on My Birthday, I Only Asked for the Cheapest Pair

I spent my birthday sitting on frozen concrete with no shoes. When someone stopped to help, I pointed to the cheapest pair in the store I didn't want to be a burden or ask for too much.

They got me warm socks and better shoes than I thought I deserved. For the first time in a while, someone saw me. But the truth is, I'm still out here. Winter isn't over, and I'm still trying to find a warm place to stay and a real chance to get back on my feet.
