Robert has spent ten years on the street after a series of difficult setbacks left him feeling lost and alone. When we met he asked for nothing more than a bag of chips but our conversation revealed a man carrying the heavy weight of shame and a deep longing for his family in Puerto Rico. He spoke so fondly of his mother and the life he left behind yet the fear of being seen in his current struggle keeps him from reaching out.

It is a powerful reminder that sometimes the biggest hurdle to a new beginning is the belief that we are not worthy of it. We are coming together to provide Robert with clothing and food and professional support through the Urban League Of Long Island to help him reclaim his dignity. Our goal is to give him the steady ground he needs so he can finally overcome his fear and find his way back to the people who love him most.
