After Everyone Walked Past Me on the Ice, I Still Gave What I Had Left

I remember the day I fell on the ice. People stepped around me like I was invisible nobody stopped. I lay there in the cold, bruised and embarrassed, watching strangers walk by without a second glance. That memory still stays with me.

But when a stranger recently asked for help mailing his grandmother's birthday card, I didn't hesitate. I gave him what little I had because some things matter more than money like making sure someone feels remembered on their birthday. Even after being ignored when I needed help, I couldn't walk past someone else in need.

Life hasn't been easy for me. I've struggled to keep a roof over my head, to put food on my table, to simply survive. But even on my worst days, I've never stopped believing we're supposed to take care of each other. Now I'm the one asking for help.
