I Tried to Give Back My Last Five Dollars Just Because Someone Finally Fed My Child

I stood in a parking lot in fifty below wind chill asking person after person for help. Over a dozen people said no, but I couldn't leave my little girl was hungry. I wasn't asking for myself. I just needed someone to help me get my daughter a sandwich.

When a stranger finally stopped and bought us lunch, I reached into my pocket and held out the only five dollars I had to my name. I wanted to give it back. Something in me just felt like I had to give to the one person who finally treated us like we mattered.

My daughter sat there smiling through the cold, telling that stranger she wants to be a doctor one day. Even when things are this hard, she still dreams that big and I'd do anything to protect that dream. I just don't want my baby to be cold and hungry anymore.
