I Spent My Life Saving Others And Now I Am Grieving Alone

I spent years running toward emergencies as an EMT a paramedic student and a firefighter. I made it my life work to show up when things fell apart for other people. Along the way I met the woman I loved through that same world of service. Six weeks ago she passed away. I am 64 years old and living alone in the apartment we were supposed to share. I am carrying a grief that is still brand new and right now I just need clothes something to eat and to know someone sees me.

I am not broken but I am grieving and adjusting largely on my own. I spent my whole career making sure strangers were okay and now I am just trying to get through the day.
