I Don't Ask for Much But I'm Asking Now

I was standing in the snow the other day when someone stopped to check on me. I didn't want to make a fuss. I just mentioned that some warm food would be nice. When they offered me a bigger backpack, I almost said no. I didn't want to be a burden to anyone.

That's just how I am. I keep my head down and get through each day the best I can.

They got me a hot meal and a new bag. And I'm grateful truly. But at the end of that day, I was still walking back out into the cold, everything I own on my back, nowhere warm to go.

I'm not looking for a handout. I just want a door I can close behind me at night. A real chance to get back on my feet.
