I Met Toby Sleeping on Trains He Had Nothing Yet Still Tried to Help Me
When I met Toby in the park, he told me he'd been sleeping on empty subway trains because it was safer than the streets. He'd lost his house when the bills became too much, and his luck had clearly run out.
But here's what broke my heart when I asked him for help getting on the train, his first instinct wasn't to ask for money or food for himself. Instead, he offered to help me said he'd ask a stranger to swipe us both through. No sense both of us being down on our luck, he said.
When I told him I wanted to help him instead, he broke down. He called it ridiculous because nobody's ever done this for me. He said it felt like a new chapter in his life was starting.
Toby gave when he had absolutely nothing. Now I'm asking you to help me give him that new chapter a real chance at stable housing and a path forward. Every dollar goes directly to getting him off the streets and into permanent housing.
Please donate what you can and share his story. Let's show Toby what kindness looks like when it comes back around.
