All I Asked For Was a Handshake

I'm David. I served this country for years. Now I'm spending winter on the streets with a cardboard sign and, honestly, I'm just grateful to be alive.

When someone stopped and asked what I needed, I said a sleeping bag. Just something to get through the freezing nights. They came back with a tent, warm clothes, and a hot meal more than I ever expected.

Then they asked if there was anything else.

I didn't ask for money. I asked for a hug. Or a handshake. Just to feel like a person again.

That's all I wanted.

I'm not asking for much now either just a safe place to sleep, a warm meal, and a chance to get back on my feet. These folks are raising money to help me find permanent housing and the basic support I need to rebuild.
