I was living in a family shelter, figuring out how to stretch what little I had to feed my five kids, when a stranger asked me for bus fare. I gave him my last dollar. I didn't even think about it if God puts someone in your path who needs help, you help them. That's just who I am.

Three years ago I left a severe domestic violence situation to keep my children safe. Since then I've been fighting every single day to rebuild our lives. I stretch a small amount of food stamps to cover the whole month for all of us. Diapers, food, a roof it all falls on me, and I carry it because my kids deserve better than what we came from.

What I need now is a real home. Not a shelter bed a place where my children can feel safe and permanent, where I can finally breathe and build something lasting.
